Jim Henry

Community Servant, Experienced Official & Veteran Dem

Jim Henry has spent his entire career working to improve people’s lives—through public service, education, and

community leadership.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in communications, a master’s degree in journalism, and later an MFA in creative nonfiction writing, Jim began his career as a journalist, educating readers about the work of local public servants and how government decisions affect everyday life.

Eventually, Jim reached a crossroads. Rather than simply covering public leaders, he decided to become one. He went on to serve his community as a city councilor, school committee member, council on aging member, and in

numerous other elected and appointed roles. He also spent eight years as a municipal administrator, rising to the level of town administrator and overseeing the daily operations of local government.

When Jim’s oldest son was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, his family needed a more hands-on father than the demands of municipal administration allowed. Jim stepped away and spent the next 15

years teaching English, mass communications, and journalism—helping students develop critical thinking skills and find their voices.

By 2016, Jim began to feel that many of the values he had spent his life teaching—truth, accountability, and respect for democratic institutions—were being openly challenged in our national discourse. That moment

clarified for him that civic engagement and voter education were more urgent than ever, and he chose to step out of the classroom and into grassroots organizing.

In 2018, Jim joined a field operation in South Florida, knocking doors across what was then Florida’s 26th Congressional District and helping flip the seat from red to blue during the Blue Wave election. Over the next seven years, he worked on campaigns across the country—from Miami to Maine, Rhode Island to

Arizona—connecting with voters, building trust, and standing up for democratic values.

Now back home in South Florida, Jim is running for Congress in Florida’s 28th District. From Miami to the Keys, he is committed to building a campaign where every community is seen, every voter is heard, and no one is forgotten.
